1. Plan Your Camera Placement
Survey the Property: Identify critical areas where surveillance is needed most such as entrances, driveways, windows, and other access points.
Field of View: Ensure each camera is positioned to minimise blind spots and maximise coverage area.
Mounting Height: Cameras should be mounted high enough to prevent tampering but low enough to capture clear images.
2. Install the Cameras
Mounting Brackets: Use the provided mounting screws to secure the camera brackets in the chosen locations. It's typically best to install cameras under eaves or overhangs for added protection from the elements.
Attach Cameras: Once the brackets are secure, attach the cameras to the brackets and adjust their angle according to the desired field of view.
3. Set Up the DVR System
Select a Location: Place the DVR in a secure, ventilated area where it will not be exposed to extreme temperatures or humidity.
Connect to Power: Plug the DVR into a power outlet using the provided adapter.
Connect to a Monitor: Use an HDMI or VGA cable to connect the DVR to a monitor. This connection is necessary for the initial setup and for live monitoring of camera feeds.
4. Connect Cameras to the DVR
Video Cables: Use the BNC cables to connect each camera to the DVR. Ensure each cable is securely connected to both the camera and the DVR.
Power Cameras: Connect the cameras to the power supply with the 2-in-1 BNC & Power cables or via the splitter cable if using a centralised power source. Wireless systems will not need to be connected directly to the DVR.
5. Configure the DVR Settings
Initialise the DVR: Power on the DVR and follow the on-screen setup wizard. Set the date, time, and configure your desired recording settings.
Format the Hard Drive: Before using the system, format the pre-installed hard drive through the DVR’s menu to ensure it is ready for use.
6. Establish Network Connectivity
Connect to Router: Use an Ethernet cable to connect the DVR to your internet router to enable remote viewing capabilities.
Network Configuration: Access the network settings on the DVR to configure it for your home or business network. This may involve setting up DHCP or a static IP.
7. Install and Set Up Remote Viewing App
Download the App: Install the XMEye app on your smartphone or tablet from the App Store or Google Play.
Configure the App: Open the app and add your DVR by scanning the QR code located on the DVR or manually entering the DVR’s serial number. Follow the prompts to connect your mobile device to your CCTV system.
8. Test Your System
Check Camera Feeds: Verify that all cameras are providing live feeds to the DVR and check for clarity and coverage.
Test Remote Access: Use the XMEye app to access the camera feeds remotely and ensure all functions are working correctly.
9. Adjust Settings as Needed
Motion Detection: Set up motion detection alerts and areas as needed to minimise false alarms and ensure effective monitoring.
Recording Schedules: Adjust recording schedules according to your security needs, such as continuous recording or scheduled recording based on time or motion detection.
10. Secure the System
User Accounts: Create user accounts with strong passwords for anyone who needs access to the CCTV system.
Physical Security: Ensure that both the DVR and cameras are secured against tampering or theft.
